Congrats, drafts are a blast! My first ride on one was with our Paint Clydesdale, who we sold last year.

It hurts! She was so wide that I pretty much had to do the splits to sit on her.

My first draft ride was also the first ride for the draft I was on LOL. It was.......interesting and a little intimidating. The first one for me was also a Perch that was just under 18 hands at the time. Quite a change from the 15 hand or shorter stock horses I was used to riding.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

I rode a draft horse for the first time when our barn got three PMU horses that were Shire/Percheron crosses. It was fairly exciting and nerve-wracking for me, but mostly because they were green broke and I hadn't had much experience riding green horses at the time, not because of their size. ;)

Now that I work at a farm that breeds draft crosses and has many draft horses, I've come to realize that they come in all shapes and sizes!
