My first ride on a draft was when I was leasing Duke. They had him in a snaffle and the girl that took me out (now a good friend of mine) asked me if I wanted to canter. At the time I was just getting back into horses but I said sure. He scared the crap outta me, I never thought he was gonna stop. After a few hairy rides like that I bought a bridle and switched him to a kimberwick, so nice to have brakes lol. I miss him though went from over 17 hands to 14.2ish.

My first draft ride was my cousin's draft cross paint waaaay back in the '60s. That was when the horse bug bit me and I'm returning to the horse world after a 30+ year break with Hugo, a Percheron cross nurse mare foal.

I'm so glad to be back.

Mine was at horse camp when I was 9 or 10. He was a ginormous Belgian called Donnie, and I rode him bareback. Tiny kid on huge horse. Fun times.

I rode not a pure draft, she was a Morgan/Belgian. Her trot felt like pure draft =p It wasn't very comfortable. But she was a beauty.

I rode my barn's draft cross once, a bit of a handful at times, but quite comfy. :)

A ride a day keeps the worries away!

Hi! My first ride on a draft was September of last year. Since seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales at Seaworld 7 years ago, I'd dreamed of owning a draft horse. Finally was able to buy my own Clydesdale in September. She's 4 years old(3 at the time) and green broke. My first ride on adraft was on her, bareback with a halter. And it was love at first ride. ;p Although I bought her sight-unseen from the internet, she has turned out to be my dream horse.

My first ride on a draft was my draft cross's first ride as a 3 yr. old also.
We've gone from this as an awkward 3 yr. old:

to this as a gorgeous 6 yr. old:

I love the drafts and would consider owning one. First ride was at a local fair as a young teenager and it was exciting!! Nothing but a walk, and slow at that, but for some reason I felt a huge sense of security regardless of the hght and I'm short

Rode a pmu Percheron a few years ago and had that same feeling, only this time I got to w/t/c. Loved it!!

My first ride on a draft was today. It was also my first ride on my boy, Aires, who is a 2yo percheron/paint cross. We just did some walking around the driveway of the barn where we board (he's WAY green broke...today was his fourth ride ever!). I do have to say that he was one of the most comfortable walks I have ridden. It barely felt like I was moving at all. I've seen him trot under saddle with our trainer (on his third ride) and she literally did not move at all.

Do not tell me I can't...because I will show you that I can.

I'm hoping a Clydie classes as a Draft? :S
Anyway, last year I rode bareback with a 7 year old (I think) sitting infront of me. :P
This was my first time meeting my second cousins. :)
