I found a crosby freestyle dressage saddle for $400.00. I am looking to start dressage lessons and I am looking for the right saddle to start with. Is that a good beginner saddle?

do you have a picture of the particular one you're looking at?

really - having a saddle that is comfortable for you and your horse, that puts you in the right position so that you're not fighting the saddle, and the fits in your price range are, imo, the most important things.

can you test ride the saddle to see how it works for you? even if it doesn't work, you'll have a better idea of what you DO want to look for in a saddle.

oooh older crosbys are to DIE for ime. love them. i have an older crosby bridle and i will cry when it falls apart (it has to be 20+ years old) because the leather is so soft and supple.

as long as the saddle is in good condition and fits you and your horse well, i'd say that's an EXCELLENT deal. also check the flocking as it may need to be reflocked. i'm not sure what that costs near you so may be worth looking into bc i have found that reflocking an older saddle before using it on your horse can save a lot of back trouble down the line.

good luck on a great find! fingers crossed that it fits both you and your horse!

Do you have a horse or you plan on using a lesson horse? If its your own horse you want to make sure saddle will fit it. If you are using lesson horse ask the trainer because not all barns allow to use own saddle (again it may not fit). I've heard nice things about crosby but personally never tried one myself.

You best bet would be to deal with the store (or private sale), which allows returns. So if it wouldn't fit (which is pretty often a case, especially with the funny-shaped horses) you could return it back. Good luck! :)
