The bridle I have been showing Cinny in is well, an antique and looks like it. So, I'm opting to buy him a new one. I really really love the one I work him in on a daily basis. It's a cheaper brand, but I love the feel of the leather, it wears well, etc. My last 3 bridles have been this brand and the only reason I don't have the first two is because they went to other owners, who also love them.
So here is my dilemma. I found a style that I really really really like a lot by the same maker. I think it would look fab on him and the browband looks easy to add some bling too. But, they only come in Havanna. I have always been picky with my bridles matching the color of my saddle.
Is it really that tacky to have a Havanna bridle with a black saddle in the dressage ring?
I've contacted the maker and they just don't do it in black. I thought maybe I could pay a little extra for them to do it but I guess they just do the Havana on all of their bridles. Sigh, I really liked it too.
Aw I'm sorry! Maybe you could look at their other styles?
I personally love dark brown bridles with the fancy white stitching...I could literally stare at them all day, the way they look are intruginh Posted via Mobile Device
I loooooove Havanna and that's the color of most of my tack, but not for dressage! All black tack for that ;-)
What kind of bridle was it that you were looking at? My dressage bridle is a Marcel Toulouse and I love it! So soft and it's nice and padded so my mare likes it too!
Okay, but don't laugh. I'm on a budget and I have always had awesome luck with this brand as for wear and suppleness.... It's a Gatsby Pelham Bridle (so with the snaffle I have extra reins which are a plus). I love the price (29.99 ebay new), I love the Wider nose, I just really like it a lot.
would any of these work for you? i've gotten two bridles from Green River Tack before and they were both very nice quality. i don't have them anymore as i don't have the pony they were for but far as i know they're still going strong...
I really like the Tori, but the more I pay for a bridle the less I have for the other stuff and entry fees. I'm trying my hardest not to cut into Cin's emergency fund (savings for emergency vet care). I like that it buckles, that is how my current bridle is. But it also doesn't have the wider nose, and for some reason I like the way a wider nose looks on Cin, it somehow balances his face even though it doesn't seem off balance normally...but with the other bridles it does somehow look like his head is funny shaped.
The Flat hunt could work. It's just scary ordering cheaper bridles online when I don't already have experience with it. I will keep them in my list of possibilities. I might be able to do the Tori if my lead on dress boots and coat pan out.
Oh, and I also forgot.... CIN HATES FLASHES lol. He tosses his head like an idiot. I've had 3 different trainers try to get me to work him with his flash and usually within a month each trainer has told me to get that darn thing off him ha ha. He just won't relax no matter how loose, tight etc it is... we've tried adjusting all sorts of ways, no dice. He throws his head up, tosses it side to side, and just freaks in general as if he's got one of those steel claw traps on him. It's really odd.
You are only looking for flat, not padded? ebay has a lot of bridles that I find are pretty good quality. The trick is finding one that isn't a crank noseband.
have you tried victorycanter dot com ? They have pretty nice bridles in black.
Yes, I think he looks better with the flat, and I am trying to stay away from the white padding because my current show bridle has the white padding and it's a pain. Plus, if I want that look one day, I already have it. Kind of nice to have two different looks. I am also planning on putting some "bling" on the browband and I don't think it looks as good when you have the white padding.
BRAND NEW! Black full-size bridle with flat reins with bit guards. Browband and caveson nosepiece are approximately 3/4 inch wide and single ply. Reins have stops near the bit ends. $25
I ride, and show, dressage with a black saddle and brown bridle. There are no rules that it needs to match and my mare is light chestnut and white so the black is very stark against her face, where the havana is more subtle and flatters her head more.
I wanted a brown dressage saddle, as I hate black tack, period, but alas, they are difficult to find.
Well, I bought the 29 dollar bridle I liked. It has arrived and it is sooooo dark, you would almost swear it's black. Almost a Dark dark sable. I think for the lower level stuff that I do, it will be fine. We are looking at Intro/training levels so..
But now I have to wait to try it out because I messed up my shoulder Per doctors orders I'm not to even LEAD a horse for at least 2 weeks
If you haven't bo't it don't. It is asian made and urine tanned. The surface promptly develops cracks no matter how much you oil or condition it. It's just not our good North American tanned leather which is veg. tanned.
I have several of these bridles and used them over the years with no problem, no cracking etc. The one I am currently using is about 10 years old and still looks new. I don't care if they are urine tanned because back in the day, that is how leather was tanned ha ha.
