    I have owned and ridden stallions, geldings and mares.
    If someone believes themselves to be a 'horseman' then they will be tested by the mares. Mares can be fussy, however, that attribute makes them desire to be more showy than geldings or stallions. Geldings and stallions easily become complacent while a mare seems to be always 'pushing' to be the best, to be number one.
