Your elbows do need to stay ON your hips (physically touching) AND they need to give and be soft. The hands need to stay closed on the reins and the aids come from the wrist.

Figuring all this out within your own body is a chore, for sure, but you think you have feel now and once your body is really positioned correctly and quietly, the communication between horse and rider becomes crystal clear.

Yep it has been frustrating.. I'm slowly getting it though :)
