    Thomas Sightenbjerggaard and Nintendo are competing in Rotterdam against Edward G on Glock's Voice, Charlotte D on Uthopia and Carl H on Dances With Wolves, among others. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

    Doesn't Edward Gall do Rolkur, and Dances With Wolves trained in Rolkur? Not UTD on Dressage contestants xD

    I think theres little doubt that Gal uses Rolkurr but our UK riders are under extreme scrutiny because the practice gets such bad press there that I doubt Karl Hester would support it
    That doesn't mean to say he doesn't use flexion exercises that involve having a horse behind the vertical for short periods of time - the difference is how long you hold it there, how much strain you are putting on the horse to get it there and how close to the chest you have the horse working
    A forward going horse that's supple and has lots of impulsion and a really light mouth is actually very easy to get behind the vertical.
    You can see the difference in a horse like that because its still moving fluidly and looks relaxed as opposed to one that's forced, stressed and stilted

    Uthopia seems to perform better for Charlotte than he did for Karl which might say something about her style of riding

    The question is always why anyone would sustain over flexion at all (aka closed throat latch let alone HELD btv (with torqued curb). It goes against the horse actively seeking the hand and easily chewing fdo.

    There really is little difference whether it is 30 seconds or an hour (seen in warm ups before 'the 10 min. Rule'). WHY would the rider HOLD the horse closed? #$& happens when schooling, horse curls over, ok half halt and carry on. It's rather like asking the question how much beating of the bf/gf is ok?

    For the horse it is an effect on the carrying mechanism, the bars, the balance, etc. Why use the neck against the horse rather than WITH the nature of the horse?

    A horse that is very supple in an uphill posture will not easily go ldr because it is uphill. It will however chew fdo quite easily because it trusts the hand to open its posture and step into that connection (without becoming over tempo). Lightness in the mouth is a result of a mobile jaw and self carriage, not because it is posed or too compressed.

    Yes to Gal, no to Hester and Dujardins, as far as we all know. Gal trains both Thomas S (not typing that name out again) and Anna Kaszprak (the new Danish National CH).

    Jaydee, just re Uthopia going better for Charlotte than Carl (with a C ;) ), I think a lot of that also has to do with the horse being more experienced in the Grand Prix work now than he was at the Olympics. Even Carl made note that he was still really quite green. Charlotte is only competing him at the moment because of this ownership debacle not allowing Carl to compete the horse on the international stage.
