I aim to ride outside atleast once a week. Usually it is a beach ride, water training in the sea. Taking my horses outside atleast once a week gives their mind something else to think about and keeps them alert for training.

The only time I ride in an arena is when I'm competing! I take my dressage horse out to a local park to train and then go on trail rides after or take them for a gallop to let them stretch out. I think it's great and can't believe people that don't take their horses out. I think I'd go more insane than my horse riding in an arena all the time!

When I got my Warmblood at the start of the year he was just thrown in to the big wide world and had to adjust very quickly to being out of an arena as that's the only place he'd ever been ridden in his entire life! He was incredibly nervous and tense to begin with but I think he quite likes getting out and about now :)
