First dressage lesson tonight

I had my first dressage lesson tonight in about oh five years. Haven't ridden in a dressage saddle in that long either. Rode my 4 year old for it too. I'm so proud of us both though I can already feel muscles I'm certain I never owned before.

I loved it! I've always been more into jumping but tonight I was feeling such a connection with my mare I could feel everything, she was responding to cues and just felt well, awesome.

Of course we didn't do anything more than walk and sitting trot. I know it's not always going to be that good but I think it's going to be very addicting.

Great job! And congrats on you entering back into the Dressage World! I bet it feels great doesn't it!

It does. I have always been nervous about it because I've never considered myself very good. Actually reading a lot of the posts here encouraged me. I need to be a better rider so I think a solid foundation in dressage can only help.

It was raining pretty heavy and my mare spooked a few times from the noise on the roof but for a youngster she did amazingly. I think I'm crazy but I think we have a better connection from just this one lesson.

I too had not taken any lessons for quite a few years and when I had my first dressage lesson a while back it was amazing.

No I wish I did. I kept wanting to see what she was doing so I kept getting in trouble for looking down lol. But hopefully next lesson I'll get some pics.

Ah...the looking down thing. I do it too..lol
One thing I like about the indoor arena at my barn is we are lucky enough to have mirrors in two of the corners on the north end. The other end does not. But they are a great tool to see what you look like and what your horse looks like. Especially during a lesson when your instructor points out that you and your horse are doing something correctly. Thus, the next time your practicing you can try to simulate the look and feel of what you were doing in your lesson.

Next year my friend and I are going to haul to a training barn across town for lessons, and they have the mirrors.

I finally bought a dressage saddle too, so that's motivated me even more.

I am in the process of having a saddle made for my mare. In my lesson yesterday afternoon we finally narrowed it down to one saddle.

Awsome! I hope you had a great time! Dressage is great for bonding and flowing and connecting with your horse! I'm trying out my new dressage whip on Chinga this afternoon, not trying it out as such but its our first ride with a dressage whip.
