Flying Changes!!!!!!!! :D

okay, i had an AMAZING ride today, and i HAD to share!!!

SO, we (me and my trainer) were teaching rena that when i ask for her hind legs to work a little more, but she likes to throw her head up and rip the reins out of my hands when i do that because she feels her back.

She only did this when i asked her to canter from a more collected walk, so she would have to step into the canter with her hind legs and a round back. BUT we worked on this, and she is perfect now ( ) the funny thing is, she only did this going INTO the canter, she collects in the canter fine. lol

so today, I rode my best and she was AMAZING! so everything was going well, i decided to try a flying change! (me and my trainer have been slowly teaching my horse them in lessons)

I did a few counter canters with changing the flexion and stuff on the counter canter without changing... that went perfectly. so I did a figure eight and made sure ihad a collected canter, and asked her to switch lead... SHE DID IT, and it wasnt late!!

then the next change would have to be from her good side to her bad side.... which she usually lunges forward into. so i decided i would counter canter her, then i kept her head PERFECTLY straight and i asked with my leg and i tryed to stay in the same position and relaxed with her head straight. AND SHE DID A PERFECT CHANGE!!! EEEK im sooooo happy!!!!

haha cookies to anyone who read that.... but i just HAD to share, im so happy!!!! were learning changes together, and out changes today were amazzzingggggg! haha sorry, i just had to share :)

If there are no horses in heaven... im not going.

Congrats on you ride. I bet your still walking on air! That sounds like a very big step. We're just starting to work on counter-canter, so hopefully flying changes are in my near future too.

You just have to see your don't have to like it.

thanks guys,

Myboypuck, haha YES i still am walking on air for sure! soo happy. I love mares, they either give you 110% effort, or 2% haha. and sometimes 80%

sorrelhorse: haha our first flying change was... well, flying xD she did a HUGE lunge forward and i almost toppled off xD but after a few weeks, she understands now
