Most definitely is. It's the #2 most dangerous sport in the world. Behind cheerleading.

YAY FOR COURTNEY!! I'm so glad she's getting better.

As far as I know there is no official ranking of the most dangerous sports. If anyone has the official ranking I'd like to see it.

Cheerleading is really, really dangerous. Broken necks, backs, arms, legs, digits. It's brutal

I'd think bull riding, motorcross and car racing would be worse, but hey, you can have a perfectly good ride and go home and slip in the tub. Make it safe as possible and don't worry about what we cannot control.

Eventerdrew, I have also heard that statistic.
I would say too it depends on what you're doing horseback riding wise - I doubt there are more accidents in western pleasure then say, the cross country phase of eventing, but as is obvious by Courtney's accident, ANYTHING can happen.
I remember way back in the day ESPN or TSN ranked the top most dangerous sports and I think that's where I saw the cheerleading/riding statistic and it stuck with me.. Way back in the day is like.. 6 to 7 years ago hahah.
