In the market for a shadbelly

Sooo my show season this year got pooched...so I'm already thinking about next show season. If all goes as planned I'll be making my FEI debut, so, I'm in the market for a shadbelly (yay!). Since show season doesn't start until May next year I obviously need to start shopping the August before, right??

Anyways, I figure if I'm going to be spending the money I might as well get a good coat. I have a Pikeur short coat but I had to alter it to fit my monkey arms - at almost 6' tall everything is loooong on me. I'm worried I'm going to have a problem with finding sleeves and tails long enough. Because of this I'm considering custom/semi-custom and I might as well buy one that'll last a lifetime (I'll have a second horse going PSG in a couple years as well as the one I'm planning on for next year - so it'll get used).

The point of this is - does anyone have suggestions as to a company/brand to check out? I won't go custom if I don't have to but I want something that will fit as perfectly as possible.
Thanks

If you were over my side of the world I would suggest getting one custom made in Bali! I have 6 short jackets, all custom made to me, with matching trousers and they cost me $50 per jacket :) The tailor I went to did a fantastic job, I took a picture with me, they measured me up and made them to my exact specs for a fraction of the cost of a store bought one.

So if you are going on holidays somewhere where the $ rate is good, and is that sort of place, then I would definitely go the tailored option.

Pikeur is gorgeous, yes! I don't know what your budget is, but everyone I know that has one of their shadbellies has raved about it (and they have been all sorts of sizes). I will think about other brands that offer semi-custom (if you do have such a problem with the arms). I'm trying to remember who offered this washable option, it felt SO nice and they had lots of sizing options.

Personally, I bought an RJ Classics hunter shadbelly because I didn't want to spend the money at the time (maybe one day! I tried on a Pikeur and couldn't believe how beautiful it was....) - it didn't fit perfectly, but I had it taken in and adjusted where it needed to be and had the buttons exchanged since I had only spent a couple hundred bucks in the first place. I may get it weighted more - the tails seem to stay down anyway, though. Or, I could just wait to get my "big girl" one!

Wow, Picup..$50 per jacket?? Man, I wish! I've actually thought about going to a tailor and I'm still considering it mainly just to weight the cost against something already made. I'm sure it won't be $50 though! ;)

Pikeur is one that I'm going to check out further. My short coat is machine washable which is totally awesome. I love it other than the arms weren't long enough. I'm planning on spending the upper hundreds-a grand so Pikeur is right around that. Thanks for the replies so far :)

What size is your Pikeur? I have several shads and, as I am not showing that level right now, I might consider thinning down. Two are Pikeurs. I am not as tall as you are, but they are longs.

Pikeurs make a quality shad and it is definitely worth the extra money to get them.

A couple of custom companies that do good work

Allison, it's a 44. If by chance you have one that size and decide to part with it, let me know :) . Thanks for the kind thought!

It sounds like Pikeur is the way to go. I think I'll start there and if I can't find what I want then I'll take a look at the custom route. Thanks for the input everyone!
