Question regarding Training Level test 3

I am going to give a go at training level test 3, just to see what happens this weekend at the Shaggy Horse Schooling Show. In the "loop" (going from HXK and later MXF) how much bend should be done? My new trainer has me REALLY bending Cinny on those... as in more bend than following the shape of the loop. I am not trying to go against my trainer by any means, I adore her... I just want to make sure we are correct at the show.

Also, is the free walk portion (KXH) also to be bent. I've seen horses do it straight then turn and straight, and I've also seen them bend it like a loop. Which is correct?

Thanks so much

In the trot loops, I'd say have just enough bend to show the judge that you are indeed bending and changing the bend. You do not need to see the whole horse's eyeball. That would be overbending.

In the walk, it is not a loop. It is a straight diagonal line to X, turn and then another straight diagonal line to the corner letter.

If you analyze how it is worded, you can see the difference between the free walk figure and the trot loop.

Hope this helps!

Courtney King Dye has an article about this in the latest issue of Dressage Today (the one with Jan Ebeling on the front). The bend in the body should match the bend of the line and the loop should be ridden as a loop, and not two diagonal lines.

Good luck!
