Are dressage saddles required for showing (local club type shows - intro level)? Or will a regular english saddle be alright? My daughter is thinking of trying a local or schooling show this summer and we have one saddle and one saddle only!
Yea! Thanks for all of the replies. After seeing the video posted by "cakemom" my daughter is intrigued. We are planning to go and watch a local show at the end of the month to see what it is all about and if she really wants to try it. I know NOTHING about dressage so I can't really be much help or explain the classes. Of course our new trainer has a dressage background so that helps but so far we've just been focusing on hunt seat stuff. Anyway, I figured before we do anything I'd better find out if it's even possible (no intention of buying a new saddle!) and it looks like it is!
Not only is it totally possible, it's a fantastic idea. If your daughter does some good dressage training and some shows this year it will give her a wonderful foundation to build on. I did it all the wrong way around, I didn't try dressage until last year, and I'm in my 50's, but I wish I'd done it sooner.
The only purchase I had to make was a dressage legal bit, but that was a minor cost.
