Welcome to the forum!!

Sadly, I am not happy to see this video. While I disliked many things about Gal's way of riding this horse, you could not argue that they had an incredible partnership. They flowed together.

Now, this new partnership just isn't there, IMO. The horse has really poor transitions, compared to his past performances (regardless of the score...more habit from the judges, I would guess). Totilas looks like he is going from one "trick" to another. Hopefully, over time, that remarkable partnership between Totilas and Gal will develop here too.

I still dislike how the horse rollkurs at the halt. A very telling sign of "business as usual....."

Its sad to see such a talented horse, labour so much in his work. As Allison said, I did not agree with everything Gal did when he rode Toto, however everything flowed, he did not look laboured and looked as though he found the work easy and fun.
Here, he is labouring throughout the test. Other videos I have seen of this combination show Toto frequently breaking rhythm, coming very low in the poll and just generally disgruntled.
It is an enormous weight on Rath's shoulders though, as a young rider being given the ride of the world number 1 dressage horse that has continuously pulled out enormous scores. No doubt he is a decent rider, and maybe he just needs some more time to 'mesh' with Toto, but at this stage, I don't like it. Again as Allison said, I believe the big scores they are getting at the moment is because it is Totilas and they are so used to giving him huge scores. This was not a winning test and if they keep working at this quality, judges will HAVE to lower the scores and we will see a new world number 1. Which would be a shame, as Toto is CLEARLY a bit of a freak of nature, in his ability to do the grand prix work.

The number one ranked horse rider is parzival and adelinde. It's been that way since totos sale. Laura b is well on her way to possibly getting that title as she has beat toto now.

The scores are now already incrementally lower, of course some of the canter work is still pulling 9 and 10 but much of the trot is 7 with the average score for him being 8. I believe the judges are being objective, as usual. As far as the poll dropping at the halt, that's the rider dropping the horse after the halt and the horse falling behind the leg, not business as usual. Most horses I work with do the same thing if you aren't pushing them up in the halt. That is the common theme throughout the test is the horse is quicker to fall behind the leg than rath is to catch it. If you watch old PSG tests of his the same thing is happening with gal, gal catches it quickly though and throughout totos career it has become less visible. That's also I think why gal warmed the horse up the way he did. The horse falls most behind in the piaffe so gal went in and out of the half steps in a low frame to get the reaction and flexibility in the longitudinal frame better.
Anyways, he's a great school master and that's a testament to gals training. Rath is making rookie mistakes and obviously is lacking the core strength coordination and timing to pull off a perfect test, like any young gp rider. Someone else has to be schooling the horse, or rath rides better at home and let his nerves get to him in the ring. Or toto is un-untrainable lol.

I saw him a WEG, and this test was very pieced together. Nothing like the fluid performance I saw at WEG. Still love the horse. Hopefully his new rider will find his way with him.

If nothing else, it is proof positive that being able to buy the best horse in the world doesn't automatically make you the best rider! Anyone who spends their time glaring at people who have way more money and resources can now go back to work and improve their riding skills regardless of level.

You just have to see your don't have to like it.
