At the beginning of the year I posted about getting a cart and harness and getting started with driving. Original post: Finally coming together
Here is a bit of an update for it.
I've worked with Angel and her ground driving. After she got that down I hooked up a small tire. I wanted her to get use to having something moving behind her, but without a lot of weight. She didn't even bat an eye when I did this. We worked with ground driving with the small tire for a little while. We then moved up to a bigger and heavier tire. Again she didn't even bat an eye.
I felt that she was ready for the cart. Before this I had her around the cart. I picked it up and shook it a little so it rattled. She couldn't have cared less. So I hooked her up. I walked around beside her as she pulled the cart. Wasn't fazed a bit. The only thing she wasn't really sure of was turning with it, but she is getting the hang of it.
Over all she has been amazing with it. Taking to everything almost instantly. I think she actually loved driving. She perks up when I hook her up. She likes to move out more with the cart. I ask her to trot and she very willingly picks it up and keeps a nice pace without me having to keep asking.
As for Jinxx we haven't really done anything with the cart since I have been working to get him started under saddle, which we have had about 5 rides so far and he is doing great.
If you remember in the last thread I posted that I needed to get a new bridle. For now I got a half blinder hood, like they use for the race horses, and have been working with that. Good news though! For graduation my parents are buying me a new driving bridle and it should be here in a week or so.
Of course a couple pictures.
Who is that masked horse?
Please excuse the destroyed building. My dad was in the process of building a green house and a storm came through and took it down. He hasn't gotten around to rebuilding/removing it yet.
