    Finally coming together updated

At the beginning of the year I posted about getting a cart and harness and getting started with driving. Original post: Finally coming together

Here is a bit of an update for it.

I've worked with Angel and her ground driving. After she got that down I hooked up a small tire. I wanted her to get use to having something moving behind her, but without a lot of weight. She didn't even bat an eye when I did this. We worked with ground driving with the small tire for a little while. We then moved up to a bigger and heavier tire. Again she didn't even bat an eye.
I felt that she was ready for the cart. Before this I had her around the cart. I picked it up and shook it a little so it rattled. She couldn't have cared less. So I hooked her up. I walked around beside her as she pulled the cart. Wasn't fazed a bit. The only thing she wasn't really sure of was turning with it, but she is getting the hang of it.
Over all she has been amazing with it. Taking to everything almost instantly. I think she actually loved driving. She perks up when I hook her up. She likes to move out more with the cart. I ask her to trot and she very willingly picks it up and keeps a nice pace without me having to keep asking.

As for Jinxx we haven't really done anything with the cart since I have been working to get him started under saddle, which we have had about 5 rides so far and he is doing great.

If you remember in the last thread I posted that I needed to get a new bridle. For now I got a half blinder hood, like they use for the race horses, and have been working with that. Good news though! For graduation my parents are buying me a new driving bridle and it should be here in a week or so.

    Of course a couple pictures.

Please excuse the destroyed building. My dad was in the process of building a green house and a storm came through and took it down. He hasn't gotten around to rebuilding/removing it yet.

Very neat, he looks pretty fly with that hooded bridle on him. He looks very nice in harness, too. Some horses just take to it naturally. Keep up the good work!

    Looks pretty good!

Reminds me of the time I went the jockey route for Halloween a few years back (before we started driving), and got a blinker hood with half cups for my Haflinger to wear. I put it on, and his whole expression was "Sister, I used to wear a driving bridle to work every day, these are nuffin'."

What kind of bridle are ya getting?

I wanted to try to get into driving for a few reasons. I thought it would be fun, got a great deal on the cart and harness, and I thought it would be a little easier on Angel. She is 23 this year, and in the picture, and I figured it would be easier than riding, not that we're not going to still ride.

I got the mask on ebay for like $12 with shipping since at the time I didn't have the money for a bridle. I also figured this would be a little easier since I could put it over their current bridles.

As for the bridle I'm getting it's this one. It's discounted because there are a few scratches, but it's still in good working order.

That's why I'd like to start some kind of driving training with my older mare. I'm not really sure how old she is, and we've been having some minor riding issues. She's got a harness, it being the spare/backup harness for my gelding and I've been ground driving her and she's been enjoying that. Gives her a "job" and all. Haven't gotten her to pulling a tire yet, but even if she never actually does drive, at least we have fun.

Of course I totally want a team now, so my next "horse" will probably be a pair of minis or smalls since I can't see myself getting a carriage and another Haflinger anytime soon. (But that's not for a long while then)

Nice bridle. Amber Hillside makes nice tack. I got my first harness from them.

And I'm so not in the mood for riding right now. Going to go down and check to see if the ring is open and me and the golden boy can go take a spin.
