We took our old Morgan mare out driving yesterday and we managed to get a few pictures snapped. I was looking back on it, and I realized we have a picture taken in almost the exact same spot from way earlier this year [January 2012]. It was the first time we'd driven her, and at that time seemed like a death-or-glory mission. Just looking at the two pictures in comparison, the differences are amazing.
First picture her head was raised, she was unfocused, trotting recklessly. Not to mention I was driving her casual-rein like a western trail horse. We also have worked out a few minor harnessing issues, (not including the breast collar, which looks like it slipped down a bit into an awkward position.) But second picture I am actually giving her guidance with the reins, and she is walking calmly forward. Before yesterday she hadn't been driven in a few months, so she took to it quite well.
It's definitely a nice change, but the poor mare is a little out of shape from being laid off for a while. Also our cart now is properly adjusted into 'winter-mode' and has gotten a few aesthetic upgrades as well.
