Horse Progress days!

Just got back from horse progress days, where I took a 3 day course in how to drive. We did everything from harnessing to driving with a manure spreader and a disc plough.

Just about every breed of draft was represented, from fjords to Suffolk. Only a few mules though, and only a pair of oxen. The purpose of the fair is to showcase the newest horse implements. They have demonstrations of hay making, tillage equipment, and produce equipment.

If you see my last post posts on here we'll see how little driving I did before I went. I couldnt even harness horse properly. Now I could even drive on my own.
Surprisingly the percherons used for the class only four years old but they didn't spook at anything and they were even doing vocal commands. Is that normal for draft horses?

That sounds like it was quite fun. I'd love to go to one of those week long (or even 3-day) driving clinics! The drafts really range a lot in mentality and patience depending on what they were bred for. Many horses bred for farm work are fairly easy and calm, where as the hitch bred horses can be quite a handful at any age. I would love to see pictures from your event!
