I started grond driving my 1/2 fjord when he was about 16 months old. He wasn't much older when I hooked him to a good sized inner tube. I ground drove him across it first. The first time he walked up to it he stepped into the middle of it. I built a tow bar with open hooks that I attached to the harness breast collar. I made extensions to the traces with rope that had a loop tien in the end that went over the hook in the bar so that if there was a problem the tow bar would come loose and it did a few times. The tire was tied to the bar to a loop welded in the middle of the bar. The bar was a piece if 1 1/2 inch steel pipe. I borrowed a rock sled and we pulled that some without the rocks. We pulled a tire. I took him to the woods when he was two and we pulled six inch diameter, six foot long firewood logs to the truck. The repition was great and he loved the real work. When I harnessed him to the breaking cart I drove it in my breaking pen. I never had a problem with him.
