First Intros :)

Luka and I did our first intros this weekend. A 10 and 15 mile. He vetted in with all A's and was alert and calling to horses, but he chilled out once we got them settled in their camp. He went out fairly quiet and yet very interested. The terrain was very rocky, almost everywhere. Glad I had front boots, but ended up borrowing boots for the rear. Glad that someone was so very nice to let me use them!

Saturdays ride, we had a 10 min 'come to Jesus' meeting about a mile in when other horses moved off and I left my friend behind for her to work some with her mare. He did settle and continued on a loose rein for the rest of the ride. We finished the 10 miler in 2 hours and 20 min-an enjoyable ride. He vetted in with mostly A's, a B and a B+. He wouldn't drink on the trail, but would wet his mouth and play with the water a little. He did eat a good bit. He ate and drank good afterwards

Sundays ride was better. Ate and drank good when offered. Took longer to ride as we just enjoyed ourselves and took pics along the way. Made it a more technical trail ride and added some long trotting when trail conditions were good. Came in with mostly A's and two B+'s. Ate/drank really well when we went back to camp.

Both vets commented on how calm he was with them, when they were vetting him and how he placed himself willingly when I asked him too :)

I am super proud of my boy!

Walking across the finish (I had allowed him to canter in down the beautiful field that had a path cut for us, towards the finish. Then I asked him to pull up and stop, where I got off, loosened his girth and walked him in. He was calm yet attentive to what was going on, from the canter to the walk-in)

Oh and one sweet volunteer took this picture of us. She was trying to get a picture of his quirky tongue thing. When he's not working, he plays with his bit with his tongue, or a rope nearby if he's tied. It's funny.

Sounds like you had an awesome time! I'd love to do some endurance, but I think I will stick inside the arena for now xD

Really cute pic, too! <3

Thanks! Zexious, trail riding is such a blast. So much to see and fun for the horse. Endurance is just a faster paced version lol. I was very pleased with how Luka seemed to take everything in stride. Two deer jumped out about 60ft ahead of us and bounded across the trail into the trees, then a fox shot out in front of us and we saw many birds fly up around us. He would look and I could feel him bunch a little and then relax, all while trotting along.

I feel like he and I are really coming together as a team :)

You're welcome :) We had a great time. Gearing up to do our first slow 25 in December. Wanted to do one next month, but got a lot of stuff going instead, so I'll have to wait. Then there is one a month from Jan-April that we're looking at :). I will be doing them nice and easy. No need to rush him at all.
