This weekend, DH and I went down to Virginia for the No Frills ride. The ride is in Star Tannery, Va and is the first leg of the Old Dominion Triple Crown. The plan had been to take George and Dream, but unfortunately for me, Dream is still lame. [Thinking/hoping its a stone bruise as the farrier found some bruising when he pulled her shoes.. so few weeks off and we shall see what happens.] So DH took George and I rode a friend's horse.
For the first time, this ride was 2 days. Plan was for me to volunteer Friday while DH rode, then he would volunteer Saturday while I rode. After we arrived at camp on Thursday, I went out with one of the ride managers to help set up the away vet check.
After getting as much of that set up as we could, I got to take a friend's horse out for a pre-ride, as she is a vendor and wanted to be around to peddle her wares. I have ridden this horse several times before and he is great fun.
Friday morning, DH and George and some other friends headed out to tackle the 55 mile trail. Day started out well, with the sun shining..
I headed out to the vet check to finish setting up and wait for people to arrive. Did a bit of everything during the day, from holding horses to scribing for the vets to card running.
At the end of the day, DH (in the red) and our friend Nancy (green on the left) won the ride and Nancy's horse got BC.
Saturday it was my turn on the trails. I was riding a friend's older horse as a 'babysitter' for my friend, who had her appendix out only a month ago! While she was cleared to ride by her doctor, we wanted to make sure she didn't have any issues during the day. We had a BLAST!!
Both my friend and the geldings had a great day. We did lose a shoe which lost us some time (and left us walking on foot for about 2 miles to the next hold!), but at the end of the day we tied for 3rd.
