Stupid question. I want a bates but my trainer says that's more for hunt riders. What do the QH people use? I have an HDR right now......???

Your HDR Should be fine. I ride in one and love it. I don't show QH but I have used mine at the World level and it has never failed me. Any of the stock horse beeds are tending to move to lighter colored saddles like oakbark, caramel, or chestnut rather than havanna and black.

I have a A/O pessoa that I love and use on my quarter horse. I know a few people that have bates saddles for their quarter horses. It should be fine. I have also used Crosby saddles on Quarter horses

Hmm, I'm not sure of any specific types of saddles used in AQHA. For me, I've used a Collegiate quite a bit. Crosby's are also pretty popular. Basically, you want it to look unobtrusive. No huge knee rolls, you want it to fit you and the horse. Neutral, classic colors.

I have a Stubben that is my absolute favorite saddle to ride in, but will never use it in a QH show b/c the knee rolls are large and are a different color from the rest of the saddle. It stands out too much for the show pen there.

To me you would be fine with a bates. Right now i'm using a pinnacle from schediers( sorry don't know how to spell that). They're reasonable and good quality, but I really want a pessoa.lol.

I have a collegiate but QH people use Bates saddles all the time. If your buying a new saddle the only thing I would say is stear clear of the light colored english saddles, everyone seems to be using darker ones.
