Yea im not sure I would rather ride english but for the speed it is alot easier in a western saddle becuz you need all the extra things that are on a western saddle

I find it a lot easier to ride quickly in an English saddle. It's funny how many different opinions there are in riding ;)

Haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if I repeat someone. In either style, English or Western, you are putting yourself on the back of a 1,000+ pound animal who can do any given thing at any given moment. Both styles take heaps of courage. Both are difficult in that respect. Anywho, I grew up riding Western, but switched to English when I fell in love with jumping. I still ride Western sometimes, and I feel that Western is more relaxed, while English requires more, ehhh, finesse? I realize that it takes just as much dedication in Western in real disciplines, but I never did any rail classes in Western-only barrels-so I really wouldn't know. But, if you are actually RIDING, as in, not just sitting in the saddle, both are equally difficult. :)
