Horse names

Had no Idea where to put this.. my new horse's name is Skittles, but I really don't like it. I've heard it's bad luck to change a horse's name though. What are your thoughts? I know someone who changes her horse's names when they arrive, and she's had terrible luck with injuries!

I know it's probably an opinion, but I was curious what everyone thought..

How old is your horse?

I changed my horse's name for protection reasons. He's in the horsey witness protection program now so his previous abusers don't come looking for him

Aww!! He's four years old. And he was my trainer's horse, who advices me not to change it. But I just hate the name Skittles, nevermind the candy!

Well... AZ was about 4 when we changed his, and he seems ok. I'm not very superstitious though

Haha, I'm not too much either, but you just never know I guess..

I wanted to change his name to Mickey - Even though it's my dog's name. It just fits him.

We change horses' names at our barn quite often when they first come in, and I can vouch that nothing tragic has happened to any of them. If the name is really going to annoy you that much, go ahead and change it. Sometimes the name just needs some getting used to, so maybe keep it for a while longer?

I changed my boys barn name from fox to Bundy, and nothing bad has happened!

Go for it!

G boy wasn't Gonzo when he came, most likely. Because, honestly? If you were constantly hitting and starving your horse, would you name it Gonzo?
It's a bit of cutesy name for an abuser to call their horse.. They sold him to my barn, so they won't look for him though.
He hasn't had one injury since we bought him. :)
