Hello All, I haven't been on the forum in a long while. I moved from AZ to Indy about 8 months ago. SadlyI had to leave my horses behind when we moved, they were able to stay were they were comfortable and their new owner is great!! Now I am horseless  and was going through a bit of horse withdrawl. That being said I have just started volunteering with equine therapy riding and now of course can't wait to ride myself. There are western barns but I have always wanted to try english. What do I look for in an instuctor/barn? Are most places ok with teaching adults? Any suggestions to get me started would be great!

Thank you,
Christina

I would just make a list of the stables in your area and start making phone calls then paying them visits. Since you already have horse experience, you can eliminate any place that seems disorganized or where the horses are not well cared for. Ask if you can watch a lesson and see how that goes. You do not have to personally like your instructor but you do need to feel that he/she is paying attention to your needs. The worst that can happen is that you take some lessons and then change to another facility if you are not satisfied
