I've Been Having Upper Body Problems... Help?

So my instructor keeps yelling at me about my upper body. Jerry is very lazy, so in order to try to get him into the corners of the ring, I twist my upper body all the way down to my hips towards the outside. Apparently you're not supposed to do that. I also have an awful problem of dropping my inside shoulder. Any suggestions on how to fix these things?

For collapsing the inside shoulder, occasionally raising your inside arm straight up sort of resets the collapsing problem. If you do it enough, eventually you'll start developing new muscle memory of where it should be. Collapsing is sometimes due to a weak core. If you're over-working to keep your horse on the rail, that might be what's causing it.

You just have to see your distance...you don't have to like it.

Are you using any inside leg at all to push him into the corners? I would think that by twisting to the outside (which isnt good anyways) would make things worse because when you start to twist in the saddle, you might be indirectly telling your horse to move away from the rail.

Inside leg outside rein. Does he respond to the leg cues?

And I agree with MyBoyPuck, raising a hand helps getting straight.
