    Just Wanted To Share This!

I just found an article by Jim Wofford called, "Are You Qualified or READY for the Next Eventing Level?". I think it makes some good points about making sure that you don't move up to soon in any riding discipline. Over-estimating your skills can have severe consequences, and I think that it's important for every rider to remember that!
Are You Qualified or READY for the Next Eventing Level?

So many people jump higher jumps than they are ready for, or practice dressage movements incorrectly because either they or their horse isn't ready to do what is asked of them/what they want to do.

Yeah, that's a good article. I agree with most everything he writes. It is scary how many people are riding above their level. Just last week I was searching the internet for good pics of proper jumping pics. The good ones were few and far between, and the jumps weren't small. Some degree of confidence is obviously necessary to ride effectively, but ego at the expense of getting hurt is just not worth it to me.

I'm glad that someone else appreciates this article, too! So many people don't spend enough time on the basics anymore. I would rather jump/ride at a lower level until I was experienced and skilled enough to move up than ride above my level and potentially put myself and my horse at risk.

I love his concepts. Every month when I get my issue of Practical Horseman, his is the first article I read. If I could do a clinic with anyone, I'd go to his.
