Thanks again to everyone for sharing their pointers before my first show. It was a local dressage schooling show and it was an awesome learning experience.
I did the walk-only and Intro A test. After the test, I didn't want to see my scorecard. It's an odd ritual I have with any test results. I prefer to enjoy my entire day, eat dinner (I usually forget to eat when I'm upset), and then check scores before bed (I like to "sleep it off" when I'm upset).
Anyway, I was shocked when I got my scorecard (66.563%) and a 4th place ribbon was attached (out of 7 riders). I didn't care about the color of the ribbon or the actual placing, I was excited that I got something! LOL. I called my entire family including some in Jamaica to spread the word.
Disclaimer: I'm a relatively new adult rider. I've been riding for less than 2 years (only 1 year doing dressage/English), and I only take lessons once a week.
Wow! I am really impressed. you ride better than many poeple who have been riding for years. you have a lovely seat and great potential and seem really well matched with your horse. I think as you do more showing, work on preparing your horse a bit more for each transition. Still, you were really right on where a horse and rider at intro should be; Horse relaxed, rider upright and aligned well, rythmic and relaxed movement. Super nice!
Thanks Tiny! It felt good to see my hard work pay off. I see the vast improvement I've made and I'm committed to growing. I started taking yoga to help with my balance, relaxation in my shoulders and strengthen my core. Posted via Mobile Device
Thanks everyone! The next show is in May and I want to retake this test and ask my trainer if I'm ready for Intro B test. My circles need work but I want to challenge myself at the same time. Posted via Mobile Device
That is great!!! Congrats! I am waiting to do my first Intro A test at a show. I got really sick starting in March and so I wasn't able to ride for a month!!! I was supposed to do a show on April 28th, but I just got back in the saddle yesterday, so no go for that one. I am very happy for you! Isn't dressage fun?
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear you got sick. Yes, dressage is lots of fun. I enjoyed watching the upper level riders as well. Although my goal is to transition to Jumpers, Dressage will always be my foundation. If I wasn't so averse to getting dirty, I probably would do eventing LOL
Good luck with your next show! Please post a video.
You looked excellent in the saddle, very calm, very controlled, all of the things every rider wants! Since Dressage isn't a discipline I know nearly anything about, I cannot offer much from a "technical" point of view, but I can CLEARLY SEE you love what you are doing and loved being out there. The smile on your face was all anyone needed to see to know that. Congratulations!! I can see you will go FAR! :0)
P.s. Your horse is lovely and you two make a great looking pair!! Posted via Mobile Device
You are supposed to be eliminated in your first show. Not just eliminated, but eliminated in a BIG way. Your horse was supposed to buck for the whole test...or...jump out of the ring.....or... halt and back up across the ring ending in a mighty rear...or...run through the plastic chain, getting it wrapped around his legs causing him to drag and take down the entire ring then, in an increasing panic, run past the judges stand where the judge is standing up astounded by the spectacle. The chain then gets caught up on the judge dragging her too.
Thanks Back2! I was very excited and made it my goal to have fun.
Allison, that was hilarious. I'm literally in bed trying not laugh out loud and wake my husband. But I couldn't help but giggle at the dragging the judge part lol.
I know nothing about dressage, but you looked really good out there! Congrats! Also, I immediately went to watch pride and prejudice after watching your video, so thanks for the inspiration.
Some examples of what a first show is SUPPOSED to look like....LOL!
So, it is too late to eliminate on your first show (as you were supposed to), but it is not too late to totally embarrass yourself in the next show. We will all be waiting......We're counting on you!
