    my ride with Jack. :(

So I went for a ride today. A trail ride and my friend rode her horse. When we got back to the pasture/barn area -We don't have an arena to ride in and the pasture and barn are connected no fence between them- I took Jack to a part to trot around. He kept trying to run back to the barn and he kept turning around looking at it. When we finally started trotting he jerked around and started for the barn. I was in tears by the time I got off of him. When I got off, I lunged him and got back on again. He did somewhat better that time.

Any tips to how I can make him behave? /:

I would get a trainer or someone who can ride VERY well to work him through it... the more times that he gets away with it the worse it will get...

No offence, but since he did it to you once already and it scared you/discouraged you, I wouldnt suggest you try to ride through it again.

We did send him off to a trainer for a month, and he was acting good for about a week when he got back, then he changed. I need to board at a barn that has a riding arena. He does better in arenas than the open. /:

I broke my horse of being gate sour by making her walk by it, and when she wouldn't listen, I would make the gate a place for work instead of a place to relax (when I get off). If you usually ride into the barn and get off, or get off at the barn, I would stop, and next time he does it just make him go through it and wish he hadn't, I don't mean be mean to him just make him work. Oh yeah, you gotta stay calm :)

I really don't understand the concept of sending a horse away to a trainer. Ultimately you're the person who rides the horse each day and you have be able to handle problems that arise. This year has particularly bad for horses testing their riders. While I agree that having a ring would give you some assistance in getting some control over your horse, if he doesn't respect you as the leader, he's only going to start pulling the same crap within the confines of the ring as well as outside. Isn't there somebody who can work with you on your horse to show you how to handle these situations? Horses like to keep things interesting. There's always going to be something new to manage.

Even if you can't move him somewhere I would try to get a trainer out to help you work through it at your place
