Red face Need advice on a older pair of boots

I'm beginning to take my first English riding lessons after riding western for about 3 years.

I took my first lesson in a pair of older Justin's lace up boots that look kinda like this: size 8.5 9 vintage brown leather 40s lace up by santokivintage

Only scuffed up and more broken in. (I'm sorry I don't have an actual picture)

So my question is, should I get half chaps (if so then what kind and/or color), or just new everything? I would like to keep expense on the down low.

I don't plan on competing or anything, just a lesson once a week for fun.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Do you think you need half chaps? If you're not going to be showing, it doesn't make any difference whether or not you use half chaps. You certainly don't need tall boots just for lessons.

If your boots are comfortable I would just use those for lessons!

I was told that half chaps would help with my seat and just make everything a lot more comfortable in general. I'm a complete novice at English, which is why I posted for advice.

Half chaps are an aid but you need to learn to balance yourself correctly without them first, otherwise you'll always have to use them. I learned to ride without any aids, so if I don't use half chaps or full seat breeches I can still balance properly on the horse.

Now that I'm older and physically less flexible than I used to be, I allow myself certain aids such as half chaps, flex stirrups, and full seat breeches. I don't need them to ride, but they do make it more comfortable for these old bones.
