Unhappy Not a good lesson today..

I had my lesson today. (it was 88 degrees out) My trainer was baby sitting her grand daughter. So she brought her down to the ring to watch me ride. It was cute because the trainer would tell the girl to say to me *hands up* posting trot.. stuff like that.

So when I was trotting my horse around the ring,i would peek over and see my trainer not paying attention to my ride. She was playing with her grand daughter(who is 2). My trainer wasnt even saying anything to me as we trotted by. Every now and then, she would say *sit up strighter* *shoulders open more* but not anything else really. So it wasnt much of a lesson today.

Yes,it was really hot out and my horse was sweaty...but still..i think she could of said more stuff to me?.. I don't know. We ended the lesson a few mins early because it was hot.

I can understand your irritation. When I pay for a private lesson, I want my trainer's TOTAL attention for the entire time. I am very irked if she takes a phone call or chats with onlookers. Do you feel you can express this to her?

Tiny, does your trainer take phone calls from her cell while your having a lesson? Mine does. Its kinda annoying.

Yes,i can talk to her about it,but im a shy gal who feels weird talking to her about this.

My trainer has done that a few times, and she always apologizes and tacks on a few minutes to make up for the loss of time. I don't have to say anything, she knows.

Snip.
LOL! I think the first time I hear a 2 year old shout over to me 'heels DOWN!!' ima going to point my horse at my trainer and run her over...

Private lessons are NOT cheap (at least in my area), and I'd expect a trainer to pay attention to me and my horse, not something or someone else (although I have no problem with the trainer sitting in mid of arena and giving instructions, especially when it's hot). Otherwise she should of cancel a lesson in advance or at least charge you less. Just IMO.

I'm the same way. I pay $45 for a 45 minute lesson and while I think it's way cheap (compared to where I used to live, Chicago), that's still $1/minute and so each minute better be focused on me. I would talk to her or find another instructor where you'll get your money's worth.

Well there was a child involved.. I'm concerned that no one else was watching her.. which may be why her attention was so divided.

You never take your eyes off of a child because they can get themselves into a lot of trouble.

I would have asked her if someone else could watch the kiddo so I could get a real lesson..

Hi,

I agree with the irritation, but if you are not having a good time, it is only making double bad for you.. who is paying..
See if this happens around you in the rest of your life.. I do understand being shy.. believe me!!!!.. but being nice and honest will bring you way more pleasure then having to simmer in that unfairness..
Take a decision, whether to talk to her, or to find a way of feeling good of yourself in that moment.. go past what is asked.. do what YOU WANT :)-

That said, as a trainer, or maybe its as a women.. we can do multiple things at the same time ;)

Have a good laugh.. even if you don't feel like it right now.. in 2 minutes you'll feel better.. and enjoy your rides fully, it doesnt matter if she's looking at you or not.. go thru the list yourself, heals down, to heads up..

Enjoy your time with your horse, he's the trainer ;)

Happy Training

I think you'll be okay ;) Sounds like she only had the kid this once. I would just float it on the off hand and wait till your next lesson :)
