I just had to brag for a second because today my mare did her first proper flying lead change and it was beautiful!! She did both front and back in the same stride and didn't buck or throw her head. My friend and I were totally shocked! I'm just so excited. 9 months ago when I got her she wasn't coordinated enough to canter balanced. Now we are cantering politely, picking up the canter from the walk beautifully and obviously on our way to a flying lead.
It's so amazing to work with a young horse and actually see your work pay off.
Congratulations! Yes, a green horse definately proves rewarding at times like these, even though I'm sure like many of us, you had your "ahh! Why did I do this!?!" moments. haha. Good luck as she continues to improve!
Yeah, a couple of months after I bought her I was afraid I had bit off more than I could chew and regretted my purchase. We pushed through it though and now I'm so happy that I bought her.
Congrats, flying changes aren't easy! My boy Dallas picked them up on his own, I was riding a jumping course and he gave me perfect changes naturally, then I just had to put a button to them. Some horses are naturals at them, other's take a bit more work. There's a mare at my barn who's 14 and still can't do her changes. lol What a good girl you have, it feels fantastic when all your hard work starts to pay off. ^^
