Hey! My riding boots are getting small for me, so I need new ones. I can't spend much money currently and I'm checking out the cheapest ones out there. I found a pair of nice looking Requisite long riding boots, but these aren't made of leather. Perhaps I can get some opinions on these boots: http://www.robinsonsequestrian.com/requisite-verwood-boots-ladies-277024?colcode=27702403 (sorry, the link doesn't work for some reason, please copy and paste it!) Has anyone used these particular ones before? Or some other synthetic boots? How long would these last? I'm just a beginner hobby rider, I ride 2-3 times a week. Thank you so much! :blueunicorn:
As far as brand, I don't have any experience with these but when it comes to synthetic leather boots, I do and it has been completely negative.
When I was very young and very poor, I needed/wanted a pair of hunt boots. Not knowing the difference except for price, I bought a pair of fake/synthetic leather boots and regretted it until the day I threw them out. The only advantage to synthetic is that you can shine them up easily and they are very cheap.
The negatives outweigh the positives drastically. Since these are basically molded plastic, they do not break in-ever. They stay in that flat footed position and you will struggle to keep your heels down as your boots will not bend. I was left with blisters all over my ankles and feet every time I wore them and my equitation and my lessons suffered. I spent so much time fighting with the plastic, trying to push my heels down and it distracted me from everything else I had to learn. They will also give you blisters just from walking!
Real leather is available out there at reasonable prices and I can't emphasize enough to you that you should take a little more time, save up some more money and look for a pair of the real deal. There are used leather hunt boots out there online also for very decent prices. You can clean and oil real leather and it will break in, soften and can become a comfortable as a regular pair of shoes. This isn't possible with synthetics.
I have 2 pairs of leather hunt boots (not super expensive) hat have lasted me 30 years and look like new. Definitely worth the investment!
