Riding Lesson Help

Hi, I'm 16 and I'm giving my little sister Angel her first ever riding lesson tommorow. I'm quite an experienced owner/rider and this is what I might do so far:

-Walk down to the yard
-Short safety and horse awareness lesson
-Leading lesson
-Get pony in from the field
-Grooming lesson
-Groom pony
-Tacking up lesson
-Tack pony up
-Riding lesson (on lead rein/lungeline)
-Untacking lesson
-Untack pony
-Groom pony
-Put pony back in the field
-Clean yard, put away tack
-Walk back home

Does it sound good? When I say lesson I mean a short talk where I explain and demonstrate what to do. Before you ask, I am not a qualified riding instructor but I know what to do. She will be learning on a bombproof family pony that has taught a 3 year old to ride! All comments welcomed, any ideas will be taken into consideration.

That sounds good! Slow and steady wins the race, remember. How old is your sister if you don't mind me asking? Because depending on how old she is (and her attitude, how fast she learns, etc) can help you decide how quickly you move during the next few lessons.

She is 7 years old, she had a great attitude towards everything but you have to repeat things quite a few times for them to get in her head and stay there! Any idea on what to do with her (exersizes ect.) while she's on the pony?

Some of my favorite lessons was when we played games. Some of these were just silly little things while the pony was standing there, but to us it was so fun. There are tons of games that help kids not only get use to being in the saddle, but also teach about balance.

One of these games we use to play was "around the world" where we would have our ponys stand, they can be held to ensure they stay put, and we would have to spin in our saddles. The first person back to the starting position wins, it actually taught you about balance and moving in the saddle. Other things you can have her do is reach for there ears while they are standing or lay back as far as they can, all of these things can help her feel more comfortable in the saddle, and helps build a bond with your pony.

It's really awesome that you are helping your little sister learn a love of horses!

You can also do a very basic command class/"Simon says".

Some stretches to do. Tell her to touch the horse's poll, then dock. Tell her to touch her toes then put one hand on her head.

Ever try "musical stalls"? Put ground poles like they're stalls. Play music and it's like musical chairs but you need more than one rider for this.

Put two ground poles down a good width away. Have her ride between them. Make them smaller every time she succesfully goes in. When she can not go in them any more, she is out.

Maybe a one-rider egg and spoon race?
