Saddle question

There is a woman at my church who use to ride, and she gave me her saddle last Christmas. I never noticed this before but on the inside flap, it says "Prix Des Nations Spring Seat" then has the Crosby logo. And I was wondering what a spring seat is?

Are you certain it says spring seat? I'm guessing it says spring tree. They are very common in saddles made in England.

Here's a good website explaining and showing some pictures.

Basically, they have two metal "slats" that allow some flexibility.

I double checked and it does say spring seat. But I'm just going to assume they are the same thing unless someone informs me differently.
Thanks :)
