So I trotted my horse bareback for the first time

And I didn't die!

I'm by no means that strong a bareback rider, but on the flip side, I ride my trainer's lesson horses bareback all the time. However, the lesson horses are not high strung Country Pleasure (Saddle seat) horses who are terrified of birds and startle at their own shadow.

I also have video :) I will admit I was very defensive with him, but I wasn't sure how/what he was going to do, even though I should know by now he'll take care of me (as evident by the teeny tiny trot he was doing, as opposed to his usual big saddle seat trot- it's like he knows I was going to fall flat on my face if he did do the big trot). I'm not anywhere near ready to canter him, but hopefully some day I can if I just keep working with him.

Good for you! My pony has such short legs and so his trot is really bumpy bareback! His canter is actually easier to sit bareback. You'll get to where you can ride all your horse's gaits bareback :)

You look good. Not tense. I like your horse, too.

Poundinghooves; I hope so! Rush has a lot of go so it will be a while before I will even contemplate cantering him. He's responsive when I tell him to transition down in the saddle, but I'm also far more secure when in the saddle; however he's a little speed demon (making him canter in a circle spanning half the arena has not helped much... yet, but he will get there) at his canter. But who knows; maybe he'll rein it in for me like he did with his trot. I'll probably torture myself with no-stirrup work in the mean time.

Boots- Thank you! I like him too

Skyseternalangel- Thank you very much!

Lecairde- Danke~ We'll see how good it is when I'm ready to canter, hehe.

Also, I'm not opposed to critiques :) I know I'm not perfect, but I also don't feel like reposting this in the board reserved for critiques (this was originally intended as a share-only, but whatever. I'm a big girl).
