Green Broke
In addition to what others say, tighten it in I'm increments. Put the saddle on, tighten to so barely touches his belly. Pick his feet, put it up another notch. Bride, put it up another notch. Use the bathroom, put it up another notch. You get the point. I'm sure he is anticipating someone to come by and tighten it up so hard he can't breath. I once saw, no joke, someone turn around put the girth over her shoulder (western) like it was a sack she was carrying, squat down and stand up to tighten it... Necessary?!!?! I promptly yelled at her. That's how you make horses like the one I met a few weeks ago. 20 minutes if walking to tighten up the girth. On the final tighten to make it riding tight he ran backward and almost fell over several times... And the trainer said that was "a big improvement". He was SUPER sweet, honest and gentle horse after all was said and done. So sad someone traumatized him like that :(
