weekend updates & first hunter pace of the season!

It was a huge success! Rode with my two friends vicky and jen and we had a great time. Came in 4th in open with 5 min off the pace, too fast lol. Good thing that we got lost for a few minutes!! We took an extra lap around a field and galloped past the turn and it wasn't til we realized we were on our second lap that we had missed the turn haha. And we were STILL 5 min too fast ROFL!

But we had SOOOO much fun and afterwards we were invited to join the hunt and they said at the very least we MUST come capping with them and roading the hounds in the summer which was just amazing. I was sooo happy so i'll see what I can do (it's $$$) but they want to make it as affordable as they can and would really love to have us hunt with them which makes me super proud of my horse(s - vicky rode opal) and friends and just the fact that they invited us. Cool stuff!

Soooo now i'm sore, sitting on heating pad and took a muscle relaxer. Idiot me was lazy and rode in jeans yesterday and jumped 3'6" a few times to loosen up sky and they bunched under my half chaps and gave me a rub on my right leg. Course to compensate on the pace I had more weight in my left stirrup so my left calf is screaming (though the right is sore too haha on my horse you better have your heels down and know how to use your seat even in FULL 2pt otherwise away you'll go!). And of course it's my left calf, and that's my worst knee so that's sore too. Blech haha! But SO worth it! Sky was (as always) a rockstar and jumped EVERYTHING woot! And my mom got there in time to see me ride in which was cool and I got to hang with her some as we chatted and ate and cooled the horses out which was nice for mother's day too. :)

Giving the horses a few days off and going to start working duke (my clyde-tb eventer) to condition him for the next pace in a few weeks and prep for our event mid-june!

So how was everyone else's weekend??? Updates please!!! What did you guys do?

That's it! I'm going down to NJ next year. We don't have any hunter paces in New England until fall. Sounds like you had sooo much fun. I didn't see any mention of a glass of wine along with that heating pad though.

My TB and I went for our yearly Kentucky Derby celebratory gallop in the woods last weekend. We did an XC clinic the week before which was a blast, and we have a show this Saturday. He's really coming along, so I'm looking forward to the show.

Glad you had fun!

Sounds like fun! We had our second show of the weekend yesterday, and I brought Molls and Lenox. Everyone wanted to know who that big 'ol Pleasure Percheron was

Cool! Sounds like fun! I was a dressage steward (aka gate keeper lol!) this weekend helping out my trainer. We had a big eventing competition (MCTA). 200 riders or so.

Lol hard to take pics on a full hunt field. They did have a warmup jump this time though so as soon as the photog gets them up i'll see if they have any of us!

Oh man, hunter paces are the single most fun thing to do with your horse! I love them! Between our two local hunts I think they have 9 scheduled for this year!
Although, this year I am a little worried about my new horse. If his (rocket-propelled) hunter round last week was any indication, I might need a stronger bit or better communication or something.

Oh, and my friend and I will often ride the course a second time at the slow pace and bring along a camera. That way we don't hold anyone up, but are able to get some pictures.
Glad you had a great time CJ!
