What is English 'Performance' riding?

I'm just starting to ride again after about 10 yrs and am finding that a lot of the things have changed. I was asking the lady I ride with about the shows she's been going to and about her trainer. She said that her trainer's speciality is 'Performance' and that many people in my area were showing in 'Performance' classes.

I have never heard of this discipline before. My friend described it as an equitation class that was kind of like 'wranglish'. This sounded very odd to me. I grew up riding in VA but currently live in SC where Western is the more prominent style.

What is this 'Performance'? Is this a new trend in English riding or is this a regional thing?

I've never heard of a specific class called performance. It's either a regional thing, a group of classes lumped in to one type of competition or she's calling something else that. What does she mean by 'wranglish'?

Performance type classes are western classes, halter/showmanship classes, and the more AQHA style of english riding. A local show at home has the regular hunter ring and the performance ring, where all of that goes down.

There are a lot of performance classes. There's English Pleasure, English Country Pleasure, Saddleseat, etc.

There isn't any one discipline called English Performance.
