Okay well I wouldn't say she's in heavy work but anyways. So I have a 21 year old 15.2hh thoroughbred mare. I ride roughly 4-5 days a week at walk trot and canter (mainly trot and canter). I do not jump her as I find it boring and she doesn't enjoy it either but I love dressage (even though I'm only just beginning) and so I do that with her. We do lengthening and shortening the stride in all gaits, circles ,loops, getting on the bit, just the basics. I ride for around 45 minutes to an hour.
I'd say medium work, if the horse is fit. I'd call a light work out 2-3 days a week for that time, trail riding or bimbling around in the school.
Heavy would be more dressage focused. When I retired my 19yo out of dressage to a happy hacker home we came down from heavy work out, ridden every day with 5/6 days focused on dressage work, to medium so he had an easier retirement.
I agree with medium. It does sound like work, but not exhausting and not daily.
