On the badminton Radio channel there were quite a few interviews with riders who commented the Badminton was the "holy grail" of eventing. I also heardit called "eventing Mecca".

Either way it is a brilliant day out, I walked the entire course twice (8miles total) watched some stunning displays of horsemanship, watched kids from the pony club have a brilliant day on thier ponies running results from the fence judges back to the main office.
I watched a display of hounds from the local Hunt who also had 3 junior members participating (and when they went for a gallop in the arena one of the kids ponies lost its brakes and over took the 17hh hunt horses), saw one contrary hound that had everyone in hysterics because It just would not do as it was told.
I also saw the official retirement of Tamarillo from international competition and oh boy was he not happy about it, They took his saddle off and attempted to put a rug on him (he was not happy about that) then walked him out of the arena, well it was supposed to be a stately walk with his rug on however Tamarillo thought otherwise and it took 2 people to hold him and when he realised he couldnt go faster he spent the entire time bucking his head off and looking thourghly pleased with himslef.

The dark bay that fell at the Huntsman's Close combination (I believe he fell at the first fence, a white gate) was Ingrid Klimke's horse Butt's Abraxxas. I've replayed video like a hundred times. It honestly looks like he just didn't pick up his feet. She put him at a good distance, and it doesn't look like she dropped her shoulders or did anything to throw him off on the take off. He probably just didn't zone in on it like he should've.

And Oli Townend's fall made me cringe. He's had so many falls on that horse, it's ridiculous. That one was just as nasty. Also, someone had a nasty take on the bank out of the water. Her horse got super close to the base and fell up the bank. My coach had an experience like that and got catapulted into the jump on top of the bank and broke her femur. The girl riding was lucky her horse didn't try to launch up the bank with his hind legs, because he totally would've thrown her into the log if he had done that.

Great pics faye, so glad you had a great time!

You are never better than anyone. Every rider has skills they need to improve. The only one you must compare yourself with, is you.
