Derby Originals Leather Event Saddle??

So, I'm looking at saddles, and this saddle:

Is only found on the one site. Reviews seem to be good, but I was hoping to hear from a live person what they think of this saddle, what's good, what's bad- the price is certainly appealing, so why is it so 'low'?

I bought a close contact saddle from them in college when the tree broke on my other saddle.. this was all I could afford. Its not so bad.. it was very well oiled. I really like tackwholesale.. i've bought many things from them.. all of thier stuff is cheap but comes very well oiled and supple... not stiff.

I hope that helps... I use it in my lesson program now. However the medium tree was still pretty narrow so keep that in mind if you order one.

Stay away from anything derby originals imo. Poor quality, poor craftsmanship, and can do a number on your horses back as the flocking is sub-par in my opinion. You're better off saving up and getting a quality used saddle rather than a new cheap saddle. Most important is that it fits both you AND your horse!

I know absolutely nothing about eventing, but I can say that this brand is terrible quality. Overseas made, usually comes with broken trees, stitching is cheap. Not a good brand to go for.

For that same price you can find a nice used Eventing/A/P saddle

I would pass also. You could find a used, quality, name brand saddle for about the same price if you look hard enough. It might be old and worn but as long as the tree is in good shape, it will be much better than this one.

Alright, thanks everyone! I have a collegiate CC right now, and I spent a fair amount of money on it- I just don't like the way it fits me. It fits Zip beautifully, but me... not-so-much. The seat isn't very deep, so I don't feel so secure out on the CC course. Yes, my leg is just fine, before you ask. No, I have never fallen on-course from this saddle. But it's just the sense of security that I value, y'know?

I agree - it looks nice in the pics. But, it's probably not nice at all. I saw a DO dressage saddle one time - I went "yuck".

Majority of saddles labled as "Eventing" saddles are All Purposes in disquise. I didn't know that until recently.

That is why you don't like how your CC isn't as "deep seated" as you would like - where you would find that in an A/P.

If I were you, I'd look into a good used Stubben A/P, not a VSD, but look at Models that are VSS's.

A/P's that are VSD's are emphasised towards Dressage. Where VSS's are emphasised towards Jumping.
