First Horse Trial!

So this coming weekend, I'm taking my OTTB gelding to our first HT! Yes, this is a first time for both of us. He's just recently come off the track, and I've had him for almost 3 months. His dressage is getting better, but there is only so much that can be accomplished it 3 months. Anyway, he's a great little jumper - loves XC and SJ. This weekend is just a local unrecognized HT and we're going Intro. So there is no stress or worrying, just simple and straightforward.

Since it is my first HT as well, I would LOVE to have any sort of "tips" or tricks of the trade. Anything is helpful! Anything from preps to do this week, stuff at the event, or for what to do the night after is welcome.

Yay! You're going to have a blast :) The only advice I have is make sure you're nice and relaxed so your energy doesn't transfer to your horse. If he can be a little spooky with jumps, just stay calm and talk to him so he knows everything's okay. And if he can rush fences, take your time. Since it's unrecognized, you can always stop, circle, backup, etc. Whatever you need to do. My first HT, Roxy and I stopped after practically every jump since she can get really strong.

Mostly, just have fun! And take plenty of pictures for us ;)

Thanks for the tips! He's quite an angel, despite his limited experience. The staying relaxed and calm is exactly what I need to do haha :)
