    First ODE :D

So, I've nominated and everything. Now to prepare! I would REALLY love the help of some of the forum members with advice :) It is mine and Chinga's first ODE we are both very excited.

    1. Resently I cut Chinga's mane, its so short that I cannot plait it so I need to cut ALL of it off :( Any advice on how to go by this?

    2. I need a new jumping vest for X/C can anyone reccomend a kind please ?

    3. The Lovely Dressage Test - For my life I cannot remember it!! Suggestions?

    4. Clean Pony Techniques, any suggestions on making Chinga look super clean and pretty for the event.

    5. Circles, any advice with this lovely shape would be great as Chinga and I completely fail at them. Mainly cantering.

    6. Cross Country round, any advice. Cross Country is for sure our week point. So any extra tips on riding fences, ect.

That's all I remember for now, I get to ride in the arena Sunday so will have our practise of the test then and try to get video to show you guys.

    Thanks

    1) If your taking it all off its best to use clippers
    3) can't offer much advise on this, I just read through it and visualise the arena, sometimes draw it.
    4) obviously bath and rug him. I'd clip his points a week before, so the fluff that sticks out of ears, fetlocks, I do whiskers etc. Trim his tail. A good brush and maybe show sheen if you want on the morning of is about all you'll need. Maybe a bit of baby oil on his face for the dressage.

How is he going anyway? After those people coming into his paddock. Ready to be taken to an event?

The above is all I can help with, good luck though!

The events not for another 15 days and his trainer is confident he is ready on the conditions that if I do not feel eaither of us is ready I pull out. Even at the last second (Unless its nerves). No, we locked the shed and dad spotted them one time and seemed to have scared them off. Thankyou for your advice! Great help!

For remembering the dressage test I used the mat (rectangle quite large) and did the course on that lol.
I got kinda busy after a while cos there were a few circles but I remember it.
Also draw and draw the test.
I never actually got to do the test because it was my dads party the night before but I'm sure I would of remembered it lol
    And Have Funn

Clippers for sure Maddie. Is he good with clippers near his ears as he may get a bit more hesitant when you reach his bridle path. If he's bad with clippers, I'd try a twitch and just getting him used to them. BTW, are you going to let it grow out after or keep it roached?

No advice here, but make sure it fits the Australian Safety Standard.

    3. The Lovely Dressage Test - For my life I cannot remember it!! Suggestions?
What test is it? I have little songs that I have for tests in my head, so if you tell me what test Ill send it to you. I'm guessing prep or prelim?

    4. Clean Pony Techniques, any suggestions on making Chinga look super clean and pretty for the event.
Its not really a hack show so for the eventing and S/J just have him neat and clean. Don't worry so much about the socks and stars in the jumping events. In dressage, you can pretty him up.

    5. Circles, any advice with this lovely shape would be great as Chinga and I completely fail at them. Mainly cantering.
So I'm guessing that you are most definitely doing prelim. You need to think six metres ahead. Chinga has to be prepared to circle. Chinga's body should only be straight at E/B and C/A. I know that probably won't make sense cause its my own little thing but yeeh. If you have transitions near centreline in the circles (I think that's 1C or 1D), I see a lot of people stuff them up.

    6. Cross Country round, any advice. Cross Country is for sure our week point. So any extra tips on riding fences, ect.
No advice on these cause the only time I've done CC is when Im just hoonin around at PC. I'd say don't hesitate, keep your head up and be confident.

That's all I remember for now, I get to ride in the arena Sunday so will have our practise of the test then and try to get video to show you guys.

    Thanks

Thankyou! We are actually doing unofficial preliminary. As I said we are riding our dressage test this weekend and I will try and get video of it :) Sadly because we are doing eventing not dressage I can't have a caller. Haha hope I don't forget the test, if I do forget it what do I do (Sarah or someone in AUS should be able to answer )

If you forget the test while your riding just stop bring your horse to a halt and try and figure out the test, if you don't in a time frame the judge will ring a bell and just walk over to them and they will tell you the next move.
I'm pretty sure this is how it works but I have never ridden only seen it done and one girl did do this.

If you do forget it you will be penalised. The judge will beep their horn, or ring their bell and normally you just go back to the movement before the error. I have seen people at a total loss ride up to C and ask the judge where they went wrong before moving on at unofficial days, but I don't think that's right. I'm sure theres a rule against it so I wouldn't do it. What test is it? I like 1D and 1A the best.

So its the 2004 test or the latest ones? Because there are quite a few differences.
