So, first we went to Greenwood! Some of you know the story of my lovely blonde moment, some don't so here:

I RODE IN THE WRONG DRESSAGE ARENA! :lol: I was SUPOSSED to ride in ring 2, but I rode in 1 with the hardest judge in the competition. I DID get a 33.5! :) I was in first but I did get HC'd. OH WELL! I had a blast and got to go out and have fun on XC! I did have a stop in stadium that was my fault of not supporting through the turn. The video of dressage is really shaky, but the comentary is halarious thanks to one of my friends and one of my teammates. Gotta love your eventing friends! I didn't get any stadium or XC from this show :( But enjoy my amazingness at dressage!

The second show was Jubilee. Dressage went great (and there was only one ring so I couldn't screw it up ;)) And we had a score of 30! We went double clear on XC, like 12 seconds under time too. (The pace was 325 for BEGINNER NOVICE! It was slowwwww I was way ahead of my minute markers!) And I knocked a rail, well, his back legs tore through a jump because I came back on his back too quick over the jump and jabbed him in the mouth :P My fault. We're working on it! because STOP IN THE NAME OF SEXY! STADIUM JUMPING IS FUN! So here is XC and Dressage from that show. No stadium for this one either, sorry!

That's right! STOP IN THE NAME OF SEXY, JUMPING IS FUN!!! WOOT WOOT!

Rock on Stormy, great job even if you ride in the incorrect ring - lol. Great dressage score though! Jellin'!

I look forward to seeing more of you and Geoffery, I am glad he is working out for you!

*psst, tell your mom she needs a camera that zooms in and out while you are recording*

#4 ·
Haha! Thanks Kim! see the thing with the camera is it's on my camera that doesn't zoom :P I'll try to get the better video's from the good camera on the computer but, no promises.

#5 ·
Ugh you have no idea how jealous I am! You look awesome! Keep it up!

How is Jubilee, btw? I remember when it first opened up, but never went to it.

#6 ·
Thanks :)

It's an ok show. They only have one dressage ring (which is good for me I guess :)) and the XC isn't very spread out. And it can either be the easiest course in the world, or they knock out half the division on the XC. That's what happened this year. I mean my division ended with 4 people and the other BN ended with 2. And the Novice riders didn't fair well either. And it gets to be the biggest slop pit if it rains. It is a nice show that's close by though, and it's VERY well run.

#7 ·
Yeah, it's run by the people who used to run Relay Station, which is way before your time. ;) But that show was nice too. I remember their water jump being kinda deep because we schooled there once and a friend of mine was on a little 13 hh pony and the water went up to his belly!

#8 ·
Oh that water jump is.... not good. It's deep and mucky and blech. Everyone was saying their horses were shying at it. My boy, who never bats and eye at galloping through water was standoffish! I had to sit deep and give him a good kick to not get a refusal!

#9 ·
Meh, that's not good. The water shouldn't be all muddy. Most places now put some sort of gravel down to keep it from getting super gross.

#11 ·
Looks like fun! Congrats! :)

Dumb question (but the video is too far).... Do you ride dressage test in dressage saddle or A/P?

#13 ·
Aww, how can you hate A/Ps?! When I first started eventing that's all I had, and it was wonderful. Also, since it was a Wintec, it was super easy to keep clean and I sold it for almost full price of what I bought it for. I've never owned a saddle like that before!

#15 ·
Why thank you HITS! :)

Because they're really bad for your position. And they don't fit right. And it's a hot mess all together. That's all I had for my jumping saddle and it tipped me so far forward it wasn't even funny. And Wintecs are very straight trees which can be only for a specific kind of horse.

#16 ·
Once again with the generalising about Wintecs/A/Ps - i'm sure you haven't ridden in every single one out there. Hey?

I have won numerous rider class awards (Juding your position and riding) in my Wintec 500 AP. The same Wintec 500 AP that has a banana tree hence fits both my little, short and bendy backed Arab's. The same Wintec I have also ridden eventing in and won equitation classes in (Similar to hunter). If all Wintecs are as straight treed as you guys seem to think maybe I really should sell mine for a mint.

Wild_spot, not all of us have the Origional "2nd Generation" models that came out in the 80's, like yours. We are talking of the Wintec Models that came out in 1996, which are the Wintec 500 Models that were just overtaken by the New Generation Models that you see being advertised now.

So, the only one's that we would of been able to ride in, are the one's that are readily being sold now, the 1996 Wintec 500 A/P, or the 2010 Wintec 500 A/P or even the Wintec 2000 - which I have ridden in...excluding the 2010 model.

And Stormy is correct. All Purpose bars are set inbetween the bars that you would find in a CC saddle *forward to incorporate the forward jumping seat seen in North America* and the Dressage bars that are set further back to incorporate a functional dressage seat.

So, the All Purpose actually doesn't aid in you either seat, just gives you a sorta "inbetween" place for you to work with.

I have ridden in a Wintec 500 All Purpose, the 1996 model for a few years before I sold it due to how strait the tree is. Bridged on my TB's back, and no matter how I fidgeted with the saddle, there was no magic way to make the blasted tree fit my TB's back.

That saddle hindered me, not aided me. It put me in a chair seat, and the majority that I see in that saddle, is the same.

I know for a fact that they are strait tree'd, Ive seen them, examined them, been shown how strait they are by Professional Saddle Makers, and have been to Saddling Seminars where they clearly state how strait the tree's are and how they only work for a horse with accertain type of shaped back.

Go ahead and sell yours, maybe in Australia you'll make some money off of it, seeing as that is where Wintecs are made anyways -but you wouldn't get more than $100 American for it if you tried to sell it here.

The ONLY Wintec that has a banana shaped tree, is the Wintec 500 Close Contact, the 1996 model - not the 2010 model that is out now.

I wasn't even born in the 80's, let alone riding! :]

We bought my 500 AP in maybe 2000? I think I was ten or eleven at the time. So I guess that would make it the 1996 model? I have no idea, I don't know anything about the different models, etc.

I didn't know they were made here, learn something new every day! I paid $600 for my original one back in the day and $300 for my newer one secondhand but as new, which was a bargain.

What I don't get is this - riders with a good position don't ride with a chair seat wether they are in a jumping saddle or dressage saddle - They just adapt. So why does in between have to automatically result in a chair seat?

I don't by any means think that a wintec is the best saddle out there - I myself don't ride in mine much anymore as now I have my custom made leather stock saddle - I only use mine on Latte as it's the one that fits her. I just hate all the generalisations when I have the proof that not ALL wintecs are straight treed sitting in my shed out at the horses. My new one, probably the 2010 model? is indeed very straight treed - It fittest Bundy okay as he is quite straight backed, but didn't work for Wildey as he has the bendy back which was why the older one fitted him.

Ah, sorry, I assumed you had the origional older model. I have seen the origional model around in tack rooms here and there and on horses here and there, but the majority of the time that saddle was bought eons ago and always been used or given to them.

All Purpose saddles are more "dressagy" with a more forward of a flap than what would be found on a dressage saddle.

The chair seat is due to how the saddle is made, the A/P is a compromise bewteen Jumping and Dressage - so the saddle just puts you in that chair seat due to where the stirrup bars are placed in relation to the seat.

I have used the Wintec 500 A/P for a few years before I moved into the saddle I have now, and while I was using it, I was told countless times to get rid of it because of how it hindered my position instead of helped. I have cliniced with Upper Level Eventers 3* and 4* who told me how little they liked that saddle and to get rid of it.

All Purpose saddles are great for those who are at low levels, but when you start going up, move on to a saddle made for the sport you are doing.

This is the Wintec 500 A/P, with the cair system and the "gullet" change capeabilities. The tree, is very strait IMO.

Here is a saddle with a bit more of an arch to its' tree - this one is the Collegiate Convertible Diploma:

Here is the Harry Dabbs Origional Event, with a "curvy" tree.

Yep, agree with those pics, and that's what my newer ap looks like. My oldey one has a really deep seat and tree more like the last pic but with a higher back and not as forward cut flap.

I also agree with the idea that as you improve you get a saddle that is designed for your discipline - but for those who don't have great ambitions they are great saddles.

I've also cliniced under Olympic level eventers who haven't mentioned my saddle (the wintec) it's all a matter of opinions :)

I own A/P Collegiate and it's a very nice saddle to ride in. I jumped in it and had no issues. Not so sure about the dressage, but it's good for flat work as well. I mostly use it for trail riding (as it's deeper), but have no problem to throw on my horse if the weather is rainy or I need a feel of extra-security. With that being said I had Wintec too for very limited time and I re-sold it, because it didn't fit my horses and yes, it felt somewhat funny position-wise.

My trainer and her daughter(a 2* eventer) always told me to get a new saddle because all the wintec ap did was hinder my position. It did put my in a chair seat and riding forward in it is a struggle, along with keeping my leg in the right place. My trainer spear let any of us have an AP saddle.

Yes, you're right, it is a matter of opinion. But the opinions you are going to get will be different from the opinions I recieve due to the different riding styles that we see in the area's we live.

I think it depends on the country. Here in North America, as you've seen and learnt by frequenting this forum - our form and style here is much different from what you see in Australia, due to the huge influence of Hunters that derived here in the 50's thanks to George Morris and a hanful of other "Greats" during Morris's era.

In Europe - England, Ireland, Scottland, Wales, New Zealand, Australia - the riding style is very different. I can turn on my BBC channel and watch Grand Prix Level Jumping Comps and see very different styles of riding in compareson to what I grew up with here in N.A.

So if I went to your Country and cliniced under an Olympic Level Jumper or Eventer with how I ride, I am sure I am going to get quite different opinions there in compareson to what I get here. And if you came here and rode in your Wintec in the style of riding that you grew up with, you'd get different opinions from the Olympic Riders here, in compareson to what you would there.

~~~
The Wintec I posted, is the model that came out in 1996. That is the first Wintec Model that came out with the Cair and the Gullet Change System. It is the same Wintec that you own. This is the model that came out with the Wintec 2000 model - and came out just before the 2010 model.
I also agree with the idea that as you improve you get a saddle that is designed for your discipline - but for those who don't have great ambitions they are great saddles.
I compleately agree.
