It all depends on the rider and how they view things like that. It doesn't bother me.

I just watched Richland Park HT's - this is a 3 star rated course where Phillip Dutton, Karen O'Connor, Darren Chaicchai *sp* and many other big named Olympic Riders compete. Every year they host a HUGE comp ranging from Novice *fences are MAXED out* to 3 star.

I saw TONS using their skull caps at Novice and Training. Minimized from Prelim and then above that they were all in top hats and shade bellies.

But on the other hand, there were just as many doing CC in their IRH's or Charles Owen velvet helmets as well. I even saw a few Tipperary Sportages.

Thanks Drew!! Yup wonder pony Peaches did it again! My trainer wants us to have velvet on for sj/dressage. I have a CO Hampton Hat

WOW! Again, thank you all for all of the replies.

Well, im about to change my own mind on that helmet. Im thinking in just going to buy another IRH schooling helmet, as it will look 'nicer' in two of the three phases. My IRH is the best helmet I've ever owned and I just need a new one.

I do not like Troxel, if anyone is wondering. My first fall in mine the dial snapped! Im just glad it wasnt my head. HA.

I already own this helmet and LOVE it! So im pretty sure I will just by another one. If I get into higher level XC then I will most likely get a skull cap.
Right now im just planning on doing BN, and then whatever the next level is for XC. I will probably so SJ and go up to 3' though. Not sure on the XC though as Bear, my horse, has never done XC.

You can never take a Thoroughbred away from a horse crazy girl.

In eventing all your courses will be same hight, in case you didn't know. My troxel isn't the diel fit kind, I hate those!!

Hehe, silly me, I guess I forgot to say that when I do two phase events (SJ and Dressage) I will be doing 3'. When I do three phase, I will be doing 18"-2'3, and maybe move up.

BN is maxed at 2'7" and the next level up is maxed at 2'11". You wont ride 3'0" until you get to Training.

I just realized, thanks to this post, that all of the local shows are effed up and are saying BN is 18". LOL! I will be doing 3'ish for show jumping and 1st level dressage. For XC im going to stick to the small stuff, if I even get into eventing.

3' XC scares the bejebers outa me! But 3' stadium doesn't. Lol! I'll just stick to BN now. ;) Then we'll see what happens!
