How to find a place to train?

I was wondering how hard it typically is to find a place with a legitimate XC trainer. I'd really like to at least try it, and if I like it, do it with April after some jumper shows. Any advice?

(Am I driving any of you nuts with this how-to stuff, yet?)

So I see from your signature that you're in Nebraska. I suspect that you might have a hard time finding a true eventing instructor. You can always check this website to see if there are any certified instructors within driving range.

I know that there is one event, Feather Creek, down in OK. (I'm in Kansas, so we've gone down a few times) You could contact the owners about training, I think they offer lessons? They might also know if there are any trainers around?

You could also ask around to see if you could find any straight jumping instructors. I don't know if you jump or not, but if you don't you definitely don't want to start out on XC.

I feel your pain, trust me, often times we've had to trailer 1.5+ hours just to get good jumping instruction.

LOL, okay, now that we're unconfused. XD That's a bummer there isn't many barns. I had a feeling. Not a lot in my area.

EDIT: It's all the way in Norman! Maybe if we do move that way. :P

If you ask around at local shows and such you might find a trainer or a place that you didn't know about. But ya, being an Eventer in the Midwest can really suck sometimes. But it really is worth it!

I don't know many barns or any trainers around her who could point me that way. Sigh. :/

Hmmm...That's tough. I guess just keep your eyes open. Do you jump already? If so you could already start working on things that you'll need on XC. (Changes of pace, coming back from a gallop to jump, balance over fences, stuff like that)

I have jumped before and shown in jumpers once. :)
