Kentucky Classique Horse Trials!

So Demi and I ventured to our home park, the Kentucky Horse Park for another recognized event at Novice level!

This one was the Kentucky Classique which is known to be a pretty tough event (aka not described as a move up or for green beans!) so we went in pretty prepared for whatever they could throw at us!

Dressage was good. It was BLAZING. HOT. So I wasn't expecting her to perform her very, very best. However, she put in a nice steady test and got a 35! Putting us in 3rd after dressage.

Onto cross country! Well, again, it was HOTTTTTT. We did a quick warm up and went on our way. My horse was great! We had some pretty scary stuff such as a log drop, a corner, big stone wall, a frangible fence, a log out of water and a 180 degree turn downhill to a line of two max cabins. She jumped everything great, but she was super tired by fence 15 or so. So I let the time slide and focused on my horse. We ended up with 12 time penalties which was totally understandable considering the heat!!!

Stadium was on Sunday. MY HORSE IS AWESOME, guys! She jumped everything like a pro to put in the best stadium round of her life!

We ended in 6th and got a pretty green ribbon :) She has officially lost her victory gallop priviledges though. She enjoys bucking and leaping if she's not in the lead. So, Demi, you have to win before you can join in again!

Here are some pics off the photographer's website. I love XpressFoto. They're the best!

Very nice!! Congrats. I respect your decision to protect your horse and accept time penalties. That is the difference between a horseman and a ribbon collector. GOOD decision!! Now the hard part.....how many of those great photos can you afford!! LOL!

I just about died laughing at that cat. Wow. Haha

Thanks! I was super proud of her pushing through that tough course even though she was tired. I wanted to reserve her energy for stadium and it seemed like she had it!

The pics are all great, I know! I don't know which ones to get!

You guys look fantastic! I didn't realize your horse's full name is Nancy Drew. Love it! I want your jumping position. I'm going to keep practicing until my pics look like that!

Thanks guys! It means a lot to get some positive feedback from my favorite forumers!

My position has improved A LOT over the past year. My trainer is absolutely amazing and has worked wonders. It's still not perfect, but it's the best it's ever been and i'm able to get so much more out of my horse!

Maura, I certainly hope we can go training! Demi has some arthritis in her hocks which we are managing with injections and monthly Adequan but she has her good days and bad days. I'm hoping we can keep going for a few more seasons, at least.

And afterwards I'd love to keep her as a dressage horse. Possibly lease her out. I don't want to sell her, but I'll need space for another prospect if she ends up not working out because of her hocks. She's a lovely dressage horse!
