So I'll be moving down to New Zealand in January to go to school (Eeeee ) and ride some horses. Unfortunately, that means I'll be looking to find a new trainer and losing the horses I am currently riding and leasing. I've been thinking about purchasing a horse so I can rid myself of the problems of dealing with leases (moving barns, contract issues, etc) but also don't want to get stuck with a horse and I don't really have a large budget for the initial price of buying (don't worry, I can support a horse fine, I just don't have 6k lying around).
I'm trying to get into eventing. I'm only jumping itty bitty BN type things right now, but I'd like to eventually move up. I don't want a horse that is going to be too much, but I also don't want something that's half dead and push button to ride as I'm a fairly competent rider.
So I can try and find a horse to lease or take out a loan to grab myself a horse and eventually upgrade if and when I move up the levels. I realize any horse can do the basics, but who can show me some examples of good horses for what I am looking to do?
Wow, I rambled a lot...
Here's some of what I've found, let me know if I'm totally off base:
StationBred Mare for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
** 16.1hh TB SCHOOLMASTER ** for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
Eye catching, black gelding for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
Arab TB Mare for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand (Depending on how green she is)
So are these a good start or am I TOTALLY off base?
Cookies to anyone who got through that :)
