Talking My first recognized Horse Trial!! :-)

Soooo I had started a thread about this a few weeks ago when I was trying to figure out whether I'd compete my very first recognized at the Starter level (which is the level I'd been showing at all year so far) or go up to the Beginner Novice level...but now I can't find my thread, so I'm just starting a new one!

Alright folks, Sandie and I did it, we officially made it through our first recognized Event! We went out and schooled the BN jumps the weekend before, but we decided to make it as stress free as possible and go with the Starter level for our very first Event. (next time we'll move up to BN!)

We started off hilariously enough by performing the wrong test! We'd been doing Intro C all year at the schooling show Starter level, but apparently they use a different test for USEA recognized, Beginner Novice A! Lucky for me the judges took pity and let me leave the arena, go memorize the new test and come back in to perform it! I forgot to walk at "M" but other than that, it actually went pretty well all things considered! We ended up with a 36 which put us in 5th place out of 9 competitors!

After a clear xc round we moved up to 4th and then the next day we moved up again to 3rd and that's where we placed!! SOOOO proud of my pony and happy we got through it! Just wanted to share some pics and video from the show for those of you who were following my thread and asking for pics! (sorry the quality on the action shots are crappy because I took them from the video which wasn't that great of quality to begin with lol) Need a better camera next time!

Posing with our ribbon!

Me saying "YOU'RE GOING OVER THE JUMP DARNIT!!!"

Last xc jump on course, and I was sooooooo exhausted from the HOT muggy weather that day I could hardly hold on anymore!

The next day it was cooler (thank GOD!!) and we were on to stadium jumping!

And our victory lap after Awards

Congrats HITS! Sandie is so cute. What did you find to be different? I've never done a recognized, so I'm a bit curious.

Fabulous...fabulous....FABULOUS!!!

You two looked great! What a nice dressage test for having so short a time to learn and NO practice! Well done!

I am SO looking forward to your next show. It is.....when?

Thank ya!! Well just the whole atmosphere really...all very proper, very on time. They did the bit check before dressage which some of the schooling shows didn't bother with. They checked my spur length as well, which no one had done before. Everyone had their horses braided and was dressed to the 9's! In cross country you HAD to have your medical armband and again most of the schooling shows around here don't bother checking for it.

They had an announcer (you can hear him on the video!!) there which was really neat! Not sure if they do that at other recognized events, but they did here and it was cool! And then just the fact that the next day everyone wore their jackets for stadium jumping too, it all looked so professional and neat, I loved it! Stadium is done in reverse order of placing, so if you're currently 1st place after dressage and xc, you'll be the last to do your stadium round which is so nerve racking because you know you're fighting to keep your blue ribbon! In my case, I was holding the 4th place spot. The person after me (in 3rd) went clear, but the next person (2nd) knocked 2 poles down which moved her down to 4th place, me up to 3rd, and the 3rd place guy up to 2nd! So it's interesting watching it all go on and watching yourself potentially move up!

And of course, the Awards ceremony! When my division was done, everyone went immediately into the arena to get their ribbons and then in placing order took a victory lap to music around the arena which was so much fun!
